NOTES:

1a) Probably Eugène Troupenas, a music publisher whose shop was "near [Hector] Berlioz's lodgings, round the corner in the Rue St. Marc. Also said to be the editor of the score of WIlliam Tell" (Source: David Cairns, Berlioz, Volume I, p. 337).  Troupenas paid Berlioz for correcting the proofs of William Tell. (Source: Ibid., p.378)

1b) "[Françoise-Joseph] Fétis, who was editing the [Beethoven] scores for Troupenas, took it on himself to "correct" the Fifth Symphony." (Source: David Cairns, Berlioz, Volume I, p. 312).

1c) Berlioz was furious at Fétis changes to Beethoven's work, "I went straight to Troupenas and told him so," says Berlioz. "Fétis's corrections were a crime..." " There was such an outcry [from musicians] that Troupenas was obliged to remove the corrections..." (Source: David Cairns, Memoirs of Hector Berlioz (New York:1969), pp. 217-218).

1d) "Rossini's works [ 3 pieces titled Faith, Hope and Charity] were performed on 20th November 1844 at Troupenas' music shop, conducted by [Auguste Mathieu] Panseron (1796-1859). Berlioz referred to it in the Débats of 10th December." (Source: David Cairns, Memoirs of Hector Berlioz (New York:1969), p. 475).

2) Document size 10cm x 15.6cm (folded)
