3) An unconfirmed English address (?), but seems reasonable since Campana died in London one month after this note was written.

 
ABOUT THE COMPOSER

Fabio Campana was born in Legnano, Italy (a short distance northwest of Milan) January 14, 1819 and died in London, England, February 2, 1882. This note (above) is dated [Jan.] 1, 1882, is a New Year's greeting to a close friend. Not all of Campana's operas were successful, but at least one, Esmeralda (1869), stayed in the performance repertoire until at least 1875.

Esmeralda, ossia Nostra Donna di Parigi (4 acts)
Premiered in St. Petersburg; December 20, 1869
Librettist: G.T. Cimina based upon Victor Hugo's novel, Notre Dame de Paris (1831)
This also was produced at Covent Garden on June 14, 1879 and later in Homburg [sic] (Hamburg) in 1872.
